Dermatology practice to affiliate with Chicago hospital

A private equity-backed dermatology practice in Lombard, Ill., and Chicago-based Rush University Medical Center have agreed to affiliate, both entities announced June 4.

The agreement, signed by the medical center and Pinnacle Dermatology, aims to expand dermatology care across the Chicago area, including northwest Indiana, according to a news release. It is a clinical collaboration and an academic relationship.

Rush University Medical Center has bought a minority stake in the dermatology practice, which has 35 locations in Illinois, Indiana, Michigan and Minnesota. Officials did not disclose terms of the deal.

"Our goals with the affiliation are to improve the accessibility, quality, coordination and cost-efficiency of care for dermatology patients across the region," said Omar Lateef, DO, and CEO of the medical center, part of Rush University System for Health.

Under the affiliation, dermatology patients with certain skin cancers and other advanced diseases will be able to quickly access consults with and referrals to Rush oncology, otolaryngology and restorative plastic surgery specialists, according to the news release. They will also be able to schedule follow-up care at Pinnacle locations, including those in Illinois and Indiana, and Pinnacle physicians will be eligible for faculty appointments at Rush University.
