Crittenton Hospital Medical Center attracts 5 systems for affiliation

Five health systems have submitted bids to affiliate with Crittenton Hospital Medical Center in Rochester Hills, Mich., according to a Crain's Detroit Business report.

Four of the health systems submitting bids are headquartered in Michigan, while the fifth system is still unknown. Flint, Mich.-based McLaren Health Care Corp., and Ann Arbor, Mich.-based St. Joseph Mercy Health System confirmed submitting proposals, while the other two systems, Warren, Mich.-based St. John Providence Health System and Henry Ford Health System in Detroit declined to comment on submitting bids, according to the report.

Although there is still speculation as to the fifth system that is seeking to affiliate with Crittenton, University of Michigan Health System in Ann Arbor denied submitting a proposal, and Crittenton's Board of Directors rejected an offer by Detroit Medical Center, which is owned by Dallas-based Tenet Healthcare Corp., to submit a bid.

Crittenton is expected to narrow its choices to two finalists by the end of 2014 and make a final decision by next spring.
