Executives at Knoxville, Tenn.-based Covenant Health have sent a letter to the board of Claiborne County Hospital in Tazewell, Tenn., as well as the Claiborne County Commission, to express interest in running the 85-bed county-owned hospital, according to a Knoxville News Sentinel report.
Claiborne County Hospital is currently facing millions of dollars in cuts and needed improvements. The hospital board recently asked the county for more than $3 million to implement a new electronic health records system, and hospital officials have also projected up to $23 million in Medicare payment cuts over the next 10 years, according to the report.
County officials said they will consider Covenant Health's offer, which also would include operating Claiborne County Hospital's adjacent 100-bed nursing home, at a meeting next week.
