Yale-New Haven Hospital and Hospital of Saint Raphael, both in New Haven, Conn., have signed a letter of intent, according to a YNHH release.
They will consider a plan in which 966-bed YNHH would purchase the assets of 511-bed HSR to create one integrated hospital with continued access to both campuses.
YNHH would invest an estimated $135 million in capital improvements for HSR and would expand clinical services on the Saint Raphael campus.
The LOI included an agreement that HSR's Catholic identity would be honored. The Sisters of Charity of Saint Elizabeth, Saint Raphael's sponsors, supported the LOI.
