Kansas City, Mo.-based Carondelet Health has acknowledged that discussions to sell St. Mary's Medical Center in Blue Springs, Mo., along with St. Joseph Medical Center in Kansas City have intensified, prompting the Blue Springs community to start a petition against a sale, according to a Kansas City Star report.
Carondelet Health has said that discussions about selling St. Mary's and St. Joseph Medical Center have intensified because of coming healthcare reform measures.
The community has asked those who want to ensure St. Mary's remains open after a potential sale to voice their concerns. Supporters have shared stories of the hospital's importance to the community on a website and social media pages. They have also collected over 320 signatures, according to the report. "The negotiations are out of our hands, but we want to show as much vocal support as we can to keep it open," said Bill Essmann, who serves on the St. Mary's Foundation Board, according to the report.
In a statement to the Kansas City Star, Fleury Yelvington, Carondelet president and CEO, said: "When there are firm decisions that can be disclosed, we will share them. In the meantime, we continue to focus on what the community and our patients expect and need from us — excellent medical care, enhanced productivity and an optimal patient experience."
