Cleveland Clinic and Akron (Ohio) General Health System have signed a letter of intent to enter into an agreement making Cleveland Clinic a minority owner of Akron General and making Akron General its exclusive health system partner in Summit County, Ohio.
Under the agreement, Cleveland Clinic will make a capital investment in Akron General, and each organization will have representation on the other's board.
As part of the agreement, Akron General’s physicians will participate in Cleveland Clinic's Quality Alliance program, which promotes collaboration between independent and employed physicians to improve quality of care while cutting costs.
"We know how important the health of Akron General is to the people of Summit County and the surrounding area," said Toby Cosgrove, MD, president and CEO of Cleveland Clinic, in a news release. "This agreement demonstrates our commitment to keeping Akron General strong in today's ever-changing healthcare environment and positioning Akron General as a leader in value-based care."
