CHS to divest 2 South Carolina hospitals by Dec. 31

Franklin, Tenn.-based Community Health Systems is on track to divest Mary Black Health System, a two-hospital system based in Spartanburg, S.C., by the end of the year.

In October, CHS entered a definitive agreement to sell the two hospitals to Spartanburg Regional Healthcare System. SRHS is on track to finalize the purchase by Dec. 31, Mark Aycock, COO of SRHS, told trustees at their recent monthly meeting, according to GoUpstate.com.

The acquisition of Mary Black Health System helps SRHS solve its need for more beds.

The two hospitals are among the several facilities with combined revenue of $2 billion that CHS intends to sell. When the transaction is complete, CHS will continue to operate four hospitals in South Carolina.
