Franklin, Tenn.-based Community Health Systems has nixed its agreement to acquire the 26-bed Roswell (N.M.) Regional Hospital amidst the Federal Trade Commission's extended review of the deal, according to a CHS news release.
The acquisition plans were announced in November and the deal was expected to close in the first quarter of this year. The deal would have reduced the Roswell market from two competing hospitals to a single integrated health network, since another CHS subsidiary currently owns the 162-bed Eastern New Mexico Medical Center in Roswell.
CHS terminated the acquisition after the FTC said it would continue its review of the deal, which would then go beyond the agreed-upon timeframe for the transaction.
