Physicians from the Augusta-based Children's Hospital of Georgia exchanged scrubs for subs in an effort to raise money for the hospital's neonatal intensive care unit, according to Fox 54 News.
Hospital personnel became "sandwich artists" for a day at a local Subway restaurant and helped raise nearly $3,000 for the NICU.
Officials said the funds will be used to buy new rocking chairs for the facility so parents and family members visiting the newborns will have a place to rest during their visit. The unit currently has two rocking chairs.
Jim Mumford, administrative director of pediatrics at the Children's Hospital of Georgia, said the hospital rocking chairs are different from the ones people tend to buy for their homes. These chairs are specially designed to provide "sleep and comfort" for the newborns and family members visiting the NICU.
