Children's Hospital Los Angeles to expand partnership with Providence

After embarking on a successful partnership with Providence Tarzana (Calif.) Medical Center in 2015, Children's Hospital Los Angeles is expanding its partnership with Renton, Wash.-based Providence Health & Services, according to Kaiser Health News.

CHLA initially partnered with the medical center to provide children and newborns in the Tarzana area better access to specialty pediatric care. The agreement allowed physicians from the CHLA Medical Group to operate the medical center's intensive care and pediatric inpatient units.

The success of the partnership led CHLA to consider collaborations with other Providence facilities. CHLA Medical Group now runs the neonatal intensive care unit at Los Angeles-based Providence Holy Cross Medical Center and will begin operating the NICU at Santa Monica, Calif.-based Providence Saint John's Health Center in January.

Dale Surowitz, CEO at Providence Tarzana Medical Center, said the partnerships have raised the quality of care at the facilities and reduced the unnecessary use of antibiotics and lengths of stay in the NICU, according to the article.
