Chicago hospital pitches $22.5M deal to expand footprint

Thorek Memorial Hospital in Chicago has filed an application with the Illinois Health Facilities and Services Review Board to buy a hospital located just a few miles away, according to the Chicago Tribune.

In its proposal to acquire Methodist Hospital for $22.5 million, Thorek said the combination of the two hospitals has the potential to benefit the community through cost savings and improved patient care.

A Methodist Hospital spokesperson told the Chicago Tribune there are no plans to close Methodist Hospital if Thorek purchases it.

"We want to stay open, we want to stay viable and we want to stay a community hospital," the spokesperson said.
