Hartsville, S.C.-based Carolina Pines Regional Medical Center will partner with Charleston, S.C.-based Medical University of South Carolina and St. Louis-based Advanced ICU Care to bring tele-ICU services to Carolina Pines, according to WBTW News.
In the tele-ICU program, trained physicians and critical care specialists will monitor Carolina Pines' ICU patients to provide an additional layer of around-the-clock care and enhance patient safety at the facility.
The team will work from a centralized operations center and will monitor patients' vital signs, medications, lab results and clinical status. Physicians and nurses will also have access to two-way, in-room video that will facilitate face-to-face consultations between the bedside staff and the tele-ICU staff, according to the article.
The program at Carolina Pines was made possible through MUSC Health's affiliation with Franklin, Tenn.-based Capella Healthcare, which retains similar tele-ICU services.
"We are pleased to partner with the physicians and clinicians at Carolina Pines Regional Medical Center to provide additional clinical surveillance and support of their intensive care patients," said Patrick Cawley, MD, CEO of MUSC Health. "This strong alliance of critical care expertise, combined with the most advanced telemedicine technology and programs provided by Advanced ICU Care, will continually improve patient care."
