Caritas Christi's New Owner to Acquire Two Community Hospitals

The new owner of Boston's Caritas Christi Health Care plans to acquire two hospitals in Massachusetts owned by Nashville-based Essent Healthcare, according to a Boston Globe report.

Steward Health Care System, the entity formed by Carita's buyer Cerberus Capital Management to run the six-hospital system, agreed to buy Merrimack Valley Hospital in Haverhill, Mass., and Nashoba Valley Medical Center in Ayer, Mass. The financial terms of the agreement were not disclosed.

As part of the agreement, Steward guaranteed it would continue all current clinical services and maintain the current levels of charity care provided by the hospitals, according to the report.

The announcement comes just a month after Cerberus finalized its acquisition of then non-profit Caritas Christi.
