Capella Healthcare, a 13-hospital system based in Franklin, Tenn., is pursuing a $100 million loan to acquire 116-bed Carolina Pines Regional Medical Center in Hartsville, S.C., according to a Nashville Post report.
In October, as required under an agreement with the Federal Trade Commission, Franklin, Tenn.-based Community Health Systems entered into a definitive agreement to sell its interest in Carolina Pines to Capella.
Although Carolina Pine's purchase price is $75 million, Capella is seeking a $100 million loan for the acquisition and intends to use the excess funds to pay down its existing asset-based credit line, according to the report.
