Buyer Emerges for Lake Shore Health Care Center

Earlier this month, Lake Shore Health Care Center in Irving, N.Y., announced plans to close in January, but a company reportedly is willing to buy the 220-bed hospital, according to a Buffalo News report.

Two weeks ago, the board of directors at Lake Erie Regional Health System, the parent of Lake Shore, said the hospital would close effective Jan. 31, 2014, which would result in 460 employees losing their jobs. However, they said they requested a 90-day window to look for potential buyers.

An unnamed New York company, which reportedly has "medical and hospital experience," intends to submit a bid on Lake Shore, according to the report. Two other healthcare organizations are also reportedly interested in purchasing the hospital.

Lake Shore is projected to lose $7 million by the end of this year.
