Broadwater Health Center, a troubled critical access hospital in Townsend, Mont., is in the initial stages of discussing a possible partnership with Billings (Mont.) Clinic, according to a Helena Independent Record report.
Kyle Hopstad, administrator of Broadwater Health Center, told the Independent Record the hospital is "in the shopping stages" and is evaluating what Billings Clinic has done with other similar-sized hospitals throughout the state.
Billings Clinic most recently signed an agreement to provide all management services at Wheatland Memorial Healthcare, a 25-bed critical access hospital in Harlowton, Mont. Billings Clinic has affiliation or management agreements with 11 small hospitals in Montana and Wyoming.
In September 2012, Broadwater Health Center received $500,000 from private donations and loans to stave off a possible closure. In addition to financial problems, the hospital closed and later reopened due to noncompliance with patient safety standards.
