State officials approved Boston Medical Center's bid to operate emergency services at Fall River, Mass.-based Dr. John C. Corrigan Mental Health Center beginning in May, according to The Herald News.
Walk-in patients will no longer have access to emergency services provided by the health center, a spokesperson for the medical center told The Herald News. State officials will continue to operate the health center's inpatient psychiatric hospital, counseling services and other mental health programs, according to the article.
BMC is reportedly in the process of hiring staff "based on the identified need" in the communities it will serve, according to the article.
The state Department of Mental Health began the bidding process to privatize the emergency mental health services at DJCCMHC and two other state facilities in southeastern Massachusetts in 2016.
