Massachusetts hospitals Beth Israel Deaconess, based in Boston, and Lahey Health, based in Burlington, announced they have entered affiliation talks, according to a report by the Boston Globe.
Included in a proposed alliance would be three physician groups: Harvard Medical Faculty Physicians at BIDMC, Lahey Clinic Physicians Group and Atrius Health, a community physicians group that already refers patients to the two hospitals.
Lahey initiated a conversation with Beth Israel Deaconess to affiliate in 2011 to no avail. Lahey later merged with Northeast Health Systems, based in Beverly, Mass., and reportedly engaged in similar discussions with Boston-based Tufts Medical Center. In January, BIDMC signed a letter of intent to acquire Jordan Health Systems, based in Plymouth, Mass.
Financial details of the potential partnership were not disclosed, and no expected timeline for ongoing discussions was released.
