Five clinical heads of Royal Oaks, Mich.-based Beaumont Health System wrote a letter to the system board, urging members to reconsider a proposed merger with Detroit-based Henry Ford Health System, according to a report by Crain's Detroit Business.
Beaumont entered into a letter of intent to merge with the non-profit system with an expected closing date within the first half of this year. Both systems have since agreed to extend the due diligence phase before signing a definitive agreement, according to the report.
The board voted to table the discussion for the next three weeks to dig deeper into physician sentiments about the possible merger, according to the report.
