Baylor Scott & White, Memorial Hermann to keep regional brands after merger: 'Spending millions taking signs off buildings doesn't improve healthcare'

Once Baylor Scott & White Health merges with Memorial Hermann to create the largest health system in Texas, the two entities still plan to maintain their distinct regional brands while operating under a new corporate name, Baylor Scott & White CEO Jim Hinton told the Dallas News

"Spending tens of millions of dollars taking signs off of buildings doesn't reduce the cost or improve the quality of healthcare," Mr. Hinton said. The systems are early in the process of determining a new corporate name and looking at a deadline of spring 2019 for one that "well represents the mission and vision of the new organization," he said.

The organizations signed a letter of intent to merge in fall 2018 with the goal of having a definitive agreement in place by next spring. The strategy to maintain distinct brands under a new corporate name was shared in initial news of the merger.

Mr. Hinton will serve as CEO of the merged organization, which will cover 30 Texas counties. Dallas-based Baylor Scott & White has a strong presence from North Texas to Austin. Memorial Hermann saturates Houston, where it's headquartered.

Joining Mr. Hinton in an "office of the CEO" will be Memorial Hermann President and CEO Chuck Stokes and Baylor Scott & White President Pete McCanna.
