Bay Area Medical Center, Aurora Health Begin Partnership Negotiations

Bay Area Medical Center in Marinette, Wis., has decided to enter into negotiations concerning a potential strategic minority partnership with Milwaukee-based Aurora Health Care, according to an EagleHerald report.

Aurora was one of nine health systems that showed interested in partnering with BAMC, according to the report. The BAMC board of directors agreed last week to authorize negotiations with Aurora.

The medical center isn't interested in a full-asset merger or sale and intends to maintain a local board with local control, according to the report. BAMC's key requirements for a partnership include access to capital to support expansion, a future growth strategy, access to managerial and clinical expertise and access to an established accountable care organization.

Negotiating the letter of intent is expected to take three to four weeks, according to the report.
