Another hospital joins West Virginia's largest health system

Grant Memorial Hospital in Petersburg, W.Va., became a full member of the West Virginia University Health System, effective July 1.

The hospital, a nonprofit critical access hospital with 25 inpatient beds, signed a letter of intent to join the Morgantown, W.Va.-based health system, which operates under the brand WVU Medicine. The hospital has over 350 employees with more than 15 medical staff.

"With the addition of the health system's resources, Grant Memorial will be able to achieve even higher levels of care and bring additional programs and services to the community," John Sylvia, the hospital's president and CEO, said in a July 5 news release.

WVU Medicine recently acquired Charleston, W.Va.-based Thomas Health and plans to add Welch (W.Va.) Community Hospital. The health system has 21 hospitals, more than 30,000 employees — including over 4,900 providers — and records more than 2.5 million patient visits a year, according to its website
