Since taking ownership and operational control of Alpena (Mich.) Regional Medical Center seven months ago, executives at Midland-based MidMichigan Health said the transition is "going smoothly," but that there are still ways to make the medical center run more efficiently, according to The Alpena News.
MidMichigan Health officials said some of their first acts as management was to create an integration team to oversee the transition and establish a leadership team to check on progress and ensure transparency.
MidMichigan Health officials also mandated daily safety briefings in which a representative from each department in the hospital explains and plans for safety issues, according to the article. Officials said they plan to upgrade the medical center's IT desk support and aim to offer telemedicine and ultrasound consultation services for women facing high-risk pregnancies.
According to the article, physicians at the medical center reached out to MidMichigan Health and asked executives to consider a potential partnership in June.
