Pittsburgh-based Allegheny Health Network is partnering with Celtic Healthcare in Mars, Pa., to create a for-profit hospice and home health network, according to Trib Total Media.
When the deal is complete on Jan. 1, 2015, Allegheny's two hospice and home care offices will merge with four of Celtic Healthcare's in a single office location. The venture will employ 175 Celtic Healthcare employees and 200 Allegheny hospice and home care employees, according to the report. Expected to serve 300 hospice patients and 1,500 home health patients, the joint venture will be the second-largest hospice and home care provider in Western Pennsylvania, putting Allegheny on the heels of its rival, Pittsburgh-based UPMC.
The joint venture will help Allegheny address its shortage of hospice and home care operations. The seven-hospital network could only provide hospice and home care to about half of their discharged patients who needed it last year, Brian Holzer, Allegheny senior vice president of diversified services, said in the report.
Celtic Healthcare, which specializes in hospice and home care, will manage the company and own 40 percent. They conduct business in Central and Northeast Pennsylvania, Maryland, Missouri and Illinois, but only their Western Pennsylvania operations will merge with Allegheny Health Network.
