1. County Officials Plan to Save Kern Medical Center With Kern Health Systems Merger
Kern County officials are preparing to publicly disclose details to county supervisors and the Kern Health Systems board today concerning a proposal to keep the financially struggling Kern Medical Center in Bakersfield, Calif., afloat by merging it with Bakersfield-based KHS, a public health insurance management firm.
2. Northern Westchester Hospital Pursues Partnership With North Shore-LIJ Health System
Mount Kisco, N.Y.-based Northern Westchester Hospital signed a letter of intent to enter into exclusive partnership talks with North Shore-LIJ Health System in Manhasset, N.Y, by the end of the year.
3. TeamHealth Merges With Physician Services of Cleveland
Knoxville, Tenn.-based TeamHealth announced a merger with the operations of Physician Services of Cleveland (Tenn.).
4. Tenet Acquires Majority Interest in Texas Regional Medical Center
A subsidiary of Dallas-based Tenet Healthcare Corp. acquired a majority interest in Texas Regional Medical Center in Sunnyvale.
5. South Central Kansas Medical Center Announces Merger With Summit Clinic
Arkansas City, Kan.-based South Central Kansas Medical Center announced Summit Clinic will merge with the hospital to form South Central Kansas Clinic, a new medical practice.
6. Scotland County Hospital Affiliates With Blessing Health System
Memphis, Mo.-based Scotland County Hospital signed an affiliation agreement with Quincy, Ill.-based Blessing Health System.
7. Duke LifePoint, Rutherford Regional Finalize Joint Venture
Rutherfordton, N.C.-based Rutherford Regional Health System and Brentwood, Tenn.-based Duke LifePoint finalized the transaction to jointly own and operate Rutherford Regional Health System.
8. CHI, Memorial Health System of East Texas Finalize Transfer of Ownership
Englewood, Colo.-based Catholic Health Initiatives and Lufkin, Texas-based Memorial Health System of East Texas signed a definitive agreement transferring ownership of Memorial to CHI.
9. Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital, Somerset Medical Center Finalize Merger
Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in New Brunswick, N.J., and Somerset Medical Center in Somerville, N.J., completed their merger, forming a hospital with 965 beds across the two campuses.
