The following hospital mergers, acquisitions and general transactions took place within the past week, beginning with the most recent.
1. Claiborne Hospital to Affiliate With Covenant
Knoxville, Tenn.-based Covenant Health and the Claiborne County Commission signed a letter of intent for Covenant to run Claiborne County Hospital in Tazewell, Tenn., along with its ambulance service and 100-bed nursing home.
2. UNC, Pardee Hospital Extend Management Agreement
The Henderson County Board of Commissioners in Hendersonville, N.C., unanimously voted to finalize an extension of the management agreement between Chapel Hill, N.C.-based UNC Health Care System and Pardee Hospital in Hendersonville, N.C., to 25 years.
3. Highlands-Cashiers Hospital Partners With Mission Health
Highlands-Cashiers Hospital in Highlands, N.C., finalized a nonbinding memorandum of understanding to become a member of Asheville, N.C.-based Mission Health, the state's sixth-largest health system.
4. Cascade, Skagit Valley Hospitals to Partner With PeaceHealth
Two small community hospitals in northwest Washington state — Skagit Valley Hospital in Mount Vernon and Cascade Valley Hospital and Clinics in Arlington — voted to begin affiliation negotiations with Vancouver, Wash.-based PeaceHealth.
5. Scottsdale Healthcare, John C. Lincoln Health Network Approve Affiliation
Scottsdale (Ariz.) Healthcare and John C. Lincoln Health Network in Phoenix signed a definitive agreement to combine, creating a new nonprofit system called Scottsdale Lincoln Health Network.
6. CHS to Acquire Sharon Regional Health System
Franklin, Tenn.-based Community Health Systems and Sharon (Pa.) Regional Health System signed a nonbinding letter of intent, which would add Sharon Regional to CHS' hospital network.
7. Commissioners Approve Mountain States' Purchase of Unicoi County Memorial Hospital
The Unicoi County Commission in Erwin, Tenn., unanimously approved the sale of Unicoi County Memorial Hospital to Johnson City, Tenn.-based Mountain States Health Alliance.
