1. Beth Israel Deaconess, Jordan Hospital Sign Definitive Merger Papers
Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center in Boston and Jordan Health Systems, parent company of Jordan Hospital in Plymouth, Mass., signed a definitive agreement to combine their organizations.
2. Natividad Medical Center, Salinas Valley Memorial Explore Partnership
The two public hospitals in Salinas, Calif. — Natividad Medical Center and Salinas Valley Memorial Healthcare System — initiated talks on a possible affiliation.
3. St. Mary's Good Samaritan, Clay County Hospital Sign Preliminary Merger Deal
St. Mary's Good Samaritan, based in Centralia, Ill., and Clay County Hospital in Flora, Ill., signed a nonbinding merger agreement.
4. Connecticut Attorney General Won't Reopen Waterbury, Vanguard Joint Venture Review
Connecticut Attorney General George Jepsen denied a request from healthcare advocates that he restart the certificate of need process for a joint venture between Waterbury (Conn.) Hospital and Nashville, Tenn.-based Vanguard Health Systems.
5. Unicoi Hospital Accepts Additional Credit Line Extension From Mountain States
The Unicoi County Memorial Hospital Board in Erwin, Tenn., voted unanimously to accept an additional $1 million line of credit from Johnson City, Tenn.-based Mountain States Health Alliance.
6. Community Health Systems to Acquire HMA for $7.6B
Community Health Systems, based in Franklin, Tenn., will acquire Naples, Fla.-based Health Management Associates in a deal valued at $7.6 billion.
7. University of Arkansas, St. Vincent Health Systems Call Off Merger Plans
Officials at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences and St. Vincent Health System, both based in Little Rock, decided to ditch a potential merger after due diligence revealed neither system could "define a pathway that meets the goals of both institutions."
