7 hospitals across 4 states will be sold at auction

Seven hospitals spread across Missouri, Kansas, Oklahoma and North Carolina will go up for auction on Dec. 19.

According to court documents, the following hospitals, previously owned by affiliates of Kansas City, Mo.-based EmpowerHMS, are being sold through the bankruptcy process:

1. Fairfax (Okla.) Community Hospital

2. Haskell County Community Hospital (Stigler, Okla.)

3. Horton (Kan.) Community Hospital

4. I-70 Community Hospital (Sweet Springs, Mo.)

5. Oswego (Kan.) Community Hospital

6. Prague (Okla.) Community Hospital

7. Washington County Hospital (Plymouth, N.C.)

A few of the hospitals have already received bids, according to documents filed in the bankruptcy cases. Dallas-based Affinity Health Partners bid $3.5 million to purchase Washington County Hospital and $3.4 million to purchase I-70 Community Hospital. Affinity's offers are stalking horse bids, meaning competing bids will be evaluated.

All seven of the hospitals filed for bankruptcy earlier this year. Most of them closed, usually with little or no notice to employees.
