6 Recent Hospital Mergers & Acquisitions

The following hospital mergers and acquisitions took place within the past week, beginning with the most recent.

1. Lawrence & Memorial Hospitals Renews Interest in Acquiring Westerly Hospital
Lawrence & Memorial Hospital in New London, Conn., submitted a "preliminary nonbinding proposal" to acquire some, or all, of Westerly (R.I.) Hospital's assets.

2. OSF Healthcare, Rockford Health Cancel Merger
OSF Healthcare in Peoria, Ill., and Rockford (Ill.) Health canceled plans to merge, with "great reluctance," citing the preliminary injunction granted to halt the deal and the prospect of a two-year legal battle with the Federal Trade Commission as deterrents to pursuing the merger.

3. Partners HealthCare System, South Shore Hospital Discuss Acquisition
Partners HealthCare System in Boston discussed an acquisition of South Shore Hospital in Weymouth, Mass.  

4. Sparrow Health, Hayes Green Beach Formalize Affiliation
Sparrow Health System in Lansing, Mich., and Hayes Green Beach Memorial Hospital in Charlotte, Mich., signed a nonexclusive affiliation agreement committing both organizations to jointly develop operational, clinical and programmatic services.

5. Ashland Community Hospital Plans Partnership With Dignity Health
Ashland (Ore.) Community Hospital's board of directors announced an agreement to exclusively negotiate a partnership with Dignity Health in San Francisco.

6. St. Vincent Health, St. Mary's Health in Indiana Merge Corporate Functions
St. Vincent Health in Indianapolis and St. Mary's Health System in Evansville, Ind., both a part of St. Louis-based Ascension Health, agreed to merge contracting and recruiting functions.
