Jersey City, N.J.-based CarePoint Health, a three-hospital system, and Hudson Regional Hospital in Secaucus, N.J., plan to affiliate under a management services organization known as Hudson Health System.
Last week, CarePoint's nonprofit board of trustees approved the partnership structure, which incorporates a certificate-of-need application filed by Hudson Regional for the operation of Bayonne Medical Center.
Hudson Health System would include both nonprofit and for-profit hospitals in an innovative new model. Two of CarePoint's hospitals, Hoboken University Medical Center and Christ Hospital in Jersey City, N.J., are nonprofits while Bayonne Medical Center operates as a for-profit entity.
CarePoint is seeking final approval from the state department of health and continues to evaluate financial restructuring options that will allow its safety net hospitals and other facilities to remain open with no service disruptions.
"Having four hospitals working together under one system creates the scale and geographic coverage required to provide premier services to the entire county," CarePoint Chair Achintya Moulick, MD, said in an Oct. 17 email to employees.
The four-hospital MSO would be led by Dr. Moulick, former CarePoint president and CEO, and Yan Moshe. They are expected to serve as co-chairs and management partners of the organization.
Hudson Regional Hospital and Bayonne Medical Center will be operated by the leaders of Hudson Regional Health and CarePoint will lead Hoboken University Medical Center and Christ Hospital.
"The MSO brings a new era of collaboration, resource-sharing and innovation, creating a robust healthcare network that caters to the needs of the growing community," according to Dr. Moulick. "Residents can look forward to expanded services, cutting-edge technology, and an unwavering focus on patient-centered care."
Dr. Moulick maintained that CarePoint would still require financial support from the state to ensure the long-term viability of the system.
CarePoint is expected to share additional details in the coming weeks.
