Healthcare industry deal volume was up 3 percent in the fourth quarter of 2014, with 341 transactions announced, according to according to a recent report from Irving Levin Associates.
Looking at the transactions from the money side, "dollar volume skyrocketed by 120 percent," in the fourth quarter of 2014 to $138 billion, according to the report. However, Actavis' $66 billion takeover of Allergan, which was announced in November 2014, made up a large portion of the total dollar amount.
There were 29 hospital transactions in the fourth quarter of 2014, and those deals made up 9 percent of the total transactions for the quarter. Long-term care deals made up the largest percentage of deals (24 percent) in the fourth quarter, with 83 transactions in that sector.
