1. Unicoi County Hospital OKs Mountain States Health Alliance Definitive Agreement
Erwin, Tenn.-based Unicoi County Memorial Hospital approved Johnson City, Tenn.-based, 13-hospital system Mountain States Health Alliance's definitive agreement to acquire it.
2. Sale of Providence, St. John Hospitals to Prime Healthcare Under Review By Kansas AG
Leaders from Providence Medical Center in Kansas City, Kan., and St. John Hospital in Leavenworth, Kan., vigorously argued in favor of their organizations' proposed sale to Ontario, Calif.-based Prime Healthcare Services before the Kansas attorney general at a public hearing.
3. St. Luke's, Elmore Medical Center in Idaho Set to Merge
Effective today, Elmore Medical Center in Mountain Home, Idaho, officially integrated with St. Luke's Health System, based in Boise, Idaho.
4. MedWest Leaders Exploring Spinoff, Fear Carolinas Operator Would Bail
Officials from three-hospital system MedWest, based in Clyde, N.C., hired consulting firm Stroudwater Associates to determine the outcome of potentially dissolving its system and the impacts it could have with its manager, Charlotte, N.C.-based Carolinas HealthCare System.
5. Morrison Community Hospital in Illinois Ends Partnership With Iowa Hospital
Morrison (Ill.) Community Hospital's board of trustees voted to not renew its management agreement with Mercy Medical Center in Clinton, Iowa, ending a partnership that has spanned more than 20 years.
6. Wise Regional Health Finalizes Takeover of North Texas Community Hospital
Executives at Wise Regional Health System in Decatur, Texas, and North Texas Community Hospital in Bridgeport formally signed transfer of ownership documents, meaning Wise Regional is now the owner of 35-bed NTCH.
7. New York Scraps For-Profit Hospital Program
A previously proposed for-profit hospital pilot program in New York was dropped from the state's budget.
8. Proposed UAMS Medical Center, St. Vincent Joint Venture Draws Concern
National watchdog groups raised questions in a letter to the board of Little Rock, Ark.-based University of Arkansas Medical System regarding its proposed affiliation with St. Vincent Health System, also based in Little Rock, which is part of the Catholic Health Initiatives network.
9. High Point Regional Merges With UNC Health Care
Chapel Hill, N.C.-based UNC Health Care completed its merger with High Point (N.C.) Regional Health System.
10. Progressive Acute Care Buys Dauterive Hospital in Louisiana
Mandeville, La.-based Progressive Acute Care finished its purchase of Dauterive Hospital in New Iberia, La., from the Regional Health System of Acadiana.
11. Sanford Health, Fairview Health Services Explore Possible Merger
Minneapolis-based Fairview Health Services and Fargo, N.D.-based Sanford Health entered exploratory merger discussions, potentially creating one of the largest non-profit health systems in the upper Midwest.
12. 2 Mayo Clinic Hospitals to Combine Under One Name
In an effort to better integrate the system, Mayo Clinic announced its two main Rochester, Minn.-based hospitals, Saint Marys Hospital and Methodist Hospital, will become a single licensed hospital and operate under the name Mayo Clinic Hospital — Rochester.
13. Munroe Regional in Florida Weighs Lease Options With HMA, LifePoint
Ocala, Fla.-based Munroe Regional Medical Center made additional site visits while it considers two 40-year lease agreements with Naples, Fla.-based Health Management Associates and Brentwood, Tenn.-based Duke LifePoint, both for-profit hospital chains.
