1. HCA Pulls Out of Lease Bidding for 2 Louisiana Hospitals
Nashville, Tenn.-based Hospital Corporation of America decided to withdraw its lease proposals for West Jefferson Medical Center in Marrero, La., and East Jefferson General Hospital in Metairie, La.
2. University of Maryland, Union Hospital Sign 2-Year Management Agreement
Officials at University of Maryland Medical System in Baltimore and Union Hospital in Elkton, Md., ratified a management services agreement.
3. Ochsner Health System Reaches Deal to Manage Hancock Medical Center
The board of trustees for Hancock Medical Center in Bay St. Louis, Miss., agreed to a two-year management agreement with Ochsner Health System in New Orleans.
4. New Jersey Health Department Recommends Sale of St. Mary's to Prime Healthcare
The New Jersey Department of Health recommended State Health Commissioner Mary O'Dowd approve the sale of St. Mary's Hospital in Passaic, N.J., to Ontario, Calif.-based Prime Healthcare Services.
5. Massachusetts: Partners, South Shore Merger Would Up Costs, Hurt Competition
The Massachusetts Health Policy Commission released a report concluding Boston-based Partners HealthCare System's proposed acquisition of South Shore Hospital in Weymouth, Mass., will increase healthcare spending, reduce competition and cause premiums to rise for employers and consumers.
6. Bankruptcy Court Approves Sale of Saint Francis Hospital to Westchester
A bankruptcy judge approved the sale of Saint Francis Hospital in Poughkeepsie, N.Y., to Westchester Medical Center in Valhalla, N.Y.
7. Healthcare Reform Pushes Carroll Hospital Center to Find Partner
Carroll Hospital Center in Westminster, Md., is "aggressively" pursuing hospital partnerships.
8. Wellmont Signs Kaufman Hall as Transaction Adviser
Kingsport, Tenn.-based Wellmont Health System hired Kaufman Hall to help the system evaluate its partnership options.
9. Rappahannock General Hospital to Join Bon Secours Virginia Health System
Bon Secours Virginia Health System in Richmond and Hampton Roads, Va., will acquire Rappahannock General Hospital in Kilmarnock, Va.
10. Orlando Health Searches for Partner
Orlando (Fla.) Health is considering several partnership proposals from both for-profit and nonprofit health systems.
11. Beth Israel Deaconess, Lahey End Merger Discussions
Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center in Boston and Lahey Health in Burlington, Mass., are no longer looking to merge.
12. CHI, St. Alexius Medical Center Agree to Affiliate
Englewood, Colo.-based Catholic Health Initiatives and St. Alexius Medical Center in Bismarck, N.D., signed a nonbinding letter of intent to form an affiliation.
