1. Somerset Medical Center Chooses Robert Wood Johnson as Merger Partner
Somerset Medical Center in Somerville, N.J., entered merger discussions with the New Brunswick, N.J.-based Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital.
2. Geisinger, Lewistown Merger Clears Next Hurdle
Lewistown (Pa.) Hospital and Danville, Pa.-based Geisinger Health System signed a definitive agreement to merge.
3. University Hospitals, EMH Healthcare Sign Letter to Merge
Elyria, Ohio-based EMH Healthcare may soon merge with Cleveland-based University Hospitals, as the two health systems signed a letter of intent to integrate.
4. Bell Hospital Signs Definitive Acquisition Agreement With LifePoint
Bell Hospital, a 25-bed critical access hospital based in Ishpeming, Mich., signed a definitive agreement to be acquired by Brentwood, Tenn.-based LifePoint Hospitals.
5. Standstill Ensues in Interfaith, Brooklyn Hospital Center Merger
Since the two cash-strapped, New York systems signed a memorandum of understanding to merge in February, The Brooklyn Hospital Center and Interfaith Medical Center, also in Brooklyn, have made little progress toward closing the deal, indicating it may never happen.
6. Baylor, Scott & White Sign Definitive Merger Agreement
Dallas-based Baylor Health Care System signed a definitive agreement to merge with Scott & White Healthcare, based in Temple, Texas, to form a new entity to be called Baylor Scott & White Health with a subsidiary service company called Baylor Scott & White Health Service.
7. Massachusetts Commission Launches Review of Partners, South Shore Hospital Deal
Massachusetts' new Health Policy Commission voted to proceed with a review of Boston-based Partners HealthCare System's planned acquisition of South Shore Hospital in Weymouth.
8. Nash Health Care Considers 5 Affiliation Partners
Rocky Mount, N.C.-based Nash Health Care sent a request for proposal to five major health systems looking for an affiliation agreement.
9. OSU Wexner Medical Center, Mount Carmel Sign Affiliation Deal
Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center and Mount Carmel Health System, both based in Columbus, Ohio, signed an affiliation agreement that will allow the two health systems to work closer on clinical care and improve care coordination in the area.
10. Cottage Health System to Acquire Sansum Clinic, Medical Foundation
Santa Barbara, Calif.-based Cottage Health System signed a letter of intent to integrate outpatient surgery network Sansum Clinic, also based in Santa Barbara, into its organization.
11. Alameda Hospital Board Signs Letter of Intent to Merge with Alameda Health System
Board members of Alameda (Calif.) Hospital signed a letter of intent to merge with Oakland, Calif.-based public network Alameda Health System.
