The following healthcare mergers, acquisitions and general transactions took place or were announced within the past week.
1. Tenet says hospital takeover talks in Connecticut are over
Tenet Healthcare, a for-profit hospital operator based in Dallas, and Connecticut Gov. Dannel Malloy announced the negotiations over Tenet purchasing five nonprofit hospitals in the state are over.
2. Cardinal Hill Rehabilitation Hospital sold to HealthSouth
Cardinal Hill Rehabilitation Hospital in Lexington, Ky., was sold to Birmingham, Ala.-based HealthSouth, an inpatient rehabilitation hospital operator.
3. North Shore-LIJ, Maimonides Medical Center exploring partnership
North Shore-Long Island Jewish Health System, a 19-hosptial system based in Manhasset, N.Y., and Maimonides Medical Center, a tertiary care teaching hospital in Brooklyn, N.Y., signed a memorandum of understanding to engage in exclusive partnership negotiations.
4. University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics to purchase Iowa City Heart Center for $1.2 million
Iowa City-based University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics will purchase business assets from the Iowa City Heart Center for $1.2 million.
5. Centura Health deal may keep 135-year-old Colorado hospital open
St. Vincent Hospital, a 135-year-old facility based in Leadville, Colo., may be able to avoid its impending closure through a deal with Englewood, Colo.-based Centura Health.
6. Clark Memorial Hospital looking at regional venture with Norton Healthcare, LifePoint Hospitals
Jeffersonville, Ind.-based Clark Memorial Hospital, Louisville, Ky.-based Norton Healthcare and Brentwood, Tenn.-based LifePoint Hospitals are discussing a potential regional partnership.
7. Carson Health joins Sparrow Health Systems
Carson Health in Carson City, Mo., which includes a 61-bed acute-care hospital and 16 physician practices, joined Lansing, Mich.-based Sparrow Health Systems.
8. CHS divests Arkansas hospital
Subsidiaries of Franklin, Tenn.-based Community Health Systems sold Harris Hospital in Newport, Ark., to White County Medical Center of Searcy, Ark.
9. Pfizer to acquire Hospira for $17B
Pfizer, a multinational pharmaceutical corporation headquartered in New York City, will acquire Hospira, a Lake Forest, Ill.-based global pharmaceutical and medical device company, for $90 a share in cash for a total enterprise value of about $17 billion.
10. LifePoint Hospitals completes acquisition of Nason Hospital
Brentwood, Tenn.-based for-profit LifePoint Hospitals completed its acquisition of Nason Hospital, a 44-bed community hospital in Roaring Spring, Pa.
