The following healthcare mergers, acquisitions, partnerships and general transactions took place or were announced during the past week.
1. Children's Hospital & Medical Center Nebraska to purchase 7-acre lot from Methodist Health
Omaha, Neb.-based Children's Hospital & Medical Center signed an agreement to purchase a portion of a 12-acre lot from Dallas-based Methodist Health System for just under $10 million.
2. McLaren Health to buy Indiana health plan
Grand Blanc, Mich.-based McLaren Health Care signed a definitive agreement to acquire nonprofit health maintenance organization MDwise.
3. Owens & Minor to acquire surgical and prevention medicine business for $710M
Owens & Minor, a medical device distributor, entered into a definitive agreement to acquire the surgical and infection prevention business from Halyard Health, a medical technology and device manufacturer, for $710 million.
4. CHS sells Mississippi hospital to Curae Health
Franklin, Tenn.-based Community Health Systems sold Merit Health Northwest Mississippi, a 181-bed hospital in Clarksdale, to Clinton, Tenn.-based Curae Health.
5. For-profit company wins bid for cash-strapped North Carolina hospital
Empower iHCC, a for-profit company based in Miami, beat out six other healthcare organizations to place the winning bid for Morehead Memorial Hospital in Eden, N.C.
6. KU Health, Ardent close St. Francis Health purchase
Kansas City-based University of Kansas Health System and Nashville, Tenn.-based Ardent Health Services closed on their joint acquisition of St. Francis Health, a 378-bed hospital in Topeka, Kan., Nov. 1.
7. Quorum sells 72-bed Alabama hospital
Brentwood, Tenn.-based Quorum Health divested 72-bed L.V. Stabler Memorial Hospital in Greenville, Ala., to the Health Care Authority of the City of Greenville-L.V. Stabler Hospital, a public corporation.
8. CHS divests Florida hospital to HCA
Community Health Systems completed the sale of Highlands Regional Medical Center, a 126-bed hospital in Sebring, Fla., to Nashville, Tenn.-based HCA Healthcare.
9. Rice Memorial board OKs partnership with CentraCare, ACMC Health
The Willmar, Minn.-based Rice Memorial Hospital board of directors approved a series of agreements Oct. 30 to create a regional healthcare entity in partnership with Willmar-based ACMC Health and St. Cloud, Minn.-based CentraCare Health.
10. Elliot, Southern New Hampshire Health combine to create Solution Health
Manchester, N.H.-based Elliot Health System and Nashua-based Southern New Hampshire Health signed an agreement Oct. 30 to combine operations.
