Washington Regulators Approve Swedish Health's Bid to Operate Public Hospital

Washington state regulators have approved plans for Seattle-based Swedish Health Services to lease and operate hospital district-owned Steven Hospital in Edmonds, Wash., according to a Seattle Times report.
The agreement between the private health system, which operates 1,245-bed Swedish Medical Center in Seattle, and the public facility will be the first of its kind approved by the state, according to the report.

As part of the 30-year arrangement, Swedish will pay $600,000 per month to lease the facility from Public Hospital District No. 2 of Snohomish County and oversee its daily operations.

The arrangement is set to go into effect on Sept. 1.
