Seattle-Area Hospital Continues to Fight Planned Hospital, Even After Groundbreaking

Even as 697-bed Swedish Medical Center in Seattle broke ground on a 175-bed hospital in suburban Issaquah Highlands, a rival hospital was pursuing a lawsuit to stop the project, according to King 5 News.

The 218-bed Overlake Hospital and Medical Center in Belleview, Wash., whose own plan for a hospital in Issaquah Highlands was rejected by Washington State planners, argued in its lawsuit that the state did not follow the proper guidelines when approving the new hospital, according to the report.

Swedish plans a ceremonial groundbreaking for mid-October and expects to open the first phase of the project in 2012, with the hospital growing to 175 beds by 2019.
