Allendale County Hospital in Fairfax, S.C., has withdrawn its plan to join with Bamberg (S.C.) County Hospital and Barnwell (S.C.) County Hospital to form the proposed Tri-County Regional Health System, according to a Times and Democrat report.
Allendale County Councilman James Pinckney said some of the reasons for Allendale pulling out included perceived inconsistencies in the letter of intent concerning the long-term viability of the hospital, the possibility of filing for bankruptcy and the infrastructure costs to the county.
The Bamberg County Council was scheduled to give a third reading of an ordinance authorizing it to partner with Barnwell and Allendale counties to form the regional hospital system on July 18. Allendale's withdrawal halted that plan.
Rose Dobson-Elliott, Bamberg County administrator, said Barnwell and Bamberg are exploring the possibility of a two-county deal, according to the report.
