A decision on a merger between Shamokin Area Hospital in Coal Township, Pa., and Danville, Pa.-based Geisinger Health System is expected later this month, following nearly a year of talks between the two groups, according to a Daily Item report.
Shamokin's CEO has said that no decision has been made but that the two groups are working on an agreement.
Geisinger announced it was entering into talks with Shamokin last December following a failed attempt to partner with Community Medical Center in Scranton, Pa.
