North Carolina's Beaufort Regional Board to Meet Next Week to Determine Next Steps Following Withdrawal of CHS Offer

Beaufort Regional Health System Board of Commissioners will meet next Tuesday to determine next steps following a failed merger plan with Community Health Systems, according to a Washington Daily News report.

CHS withdrew its offer — which the board previously approved — after medical staff and community members protested the decision. The medical staff had recommended the hospital merge with non-profit University Health Systems of Eastern Carolina, but the board dismissed their recommendation.

CHS's offer included a $30 million, 30-year lease of the facility.

BRHS is expected to revisit the 30-year least/purchase agreement from UHS for $24 million as well as a bid by LHP Hospital Group for a 30-year joint venture arrangement for $31.2 million.
