Massachusetts Health Council Approves Caritas Christi Sale

The Massachusetts Public Health Council has granted licenses to allow Caritas Christi Health Care's six hospitals to operate under new owner Cerberus Capital Management, according to a Boston Globe report.

The council approved the licenses under two conditions — that Caritas strengthen its translation services and that it continue to provide substance abuse and wellness programs, according to the report.

The deal, which was approved earlier this month by the Massachusetts Attorney General, still awaits approval from the Supreme Judicial Court of Massachusetts. The Supreme Court must approve the transaction because it involves the transfer of charitable assets to a for-profit entity.
