The boards of Danville, Pa.-based Geisinger Health System and Shamokin Area Hospital in Coal Township, Pa., have approved a full merger of the hospital and health system, according to a Sun Gazette report.
After the deal is finalized, Shamokin will be integrated into the Geisinger system
Shamokin Area Community Hospital President and CEO Thomas Harlow said the merger better ensures long-term access to hospital care for the area, according to the report.
