More than 50 physicians have accused trustees of Warren Hospital in Phillipsburg, N.J., of forming an "exclusive agreement" to sell the hospital to Bethlehem, Pa.-based St. Luke's Hospital and Health Network without input from medical staff, according to an Express-Times report.
The physicians took out a full-page advertisement in the local newspaper, criticizing hospital trustees for accepting a deal with St. Luke's without "the input of the medical staff or a single public discussion," according to the report. Community Health Systems also made an offer to purchase Warren, which was received and rejected by hospital trustees in the same day. Physicians suggested the advertisement, but CHS paid for it, according to the report.
The ad also includes benefits CHS offered Warren, such as a purchase price of $40 million, a capital investment of $30 million and a pledge to hire employees in their same positions and same rate of pay while recognizing seniority.
