As Baby Boomers reach the golden Medicare age of 65, clinics in the Spokane, Wash., area are revving up physician hiring to provide care for that population, according to a Spokesman Review report.
Providence Medical Group with Providence Health and Services in Spokane has tripled its physician staff in the past two years, and the Spokane-area Rockwood Clinic, owned by Community Health Services, plans to add 13 more physicians; it added that many physicians in 2011.
More hospital-affiliated practices are expected to pop up in the state's future as medical groups buy out longtime independent practices.
"It's become harder for independent clinics to operate because of financial pressures and the uncertainty of health care reform," said Kevin Sweeny, MD, a physician recruiter with Providence Medical Group.
