The Alice L. Walton School of Medicine in Bentonville, Ark., is continuing to appoint faculty and leaders as it prepares for the launch of its four-year medical degree program in 2025.
Most recently, on April 23, the school announced the appointments of Amy Wenger as its vice president of finance and administration; Jonathan Brown, PhD, as professor of medical microbiology and immunology, and Alexia Riggs, EdD, as senior director of library and information services.
Last year, Walton Medical School named Sharmila Makhija, MD, its founding dean and CEO. In late 2022, it appointed its nine-member board. The school continues hiring for a number of open positions.
Alice Walton, the only daughter of Walmart founder Sam Walton, shared plans in March 2021 to finance and build a four-year medical school in Bentonville. The nonprofit, four-year MD program is designed to enhance traditional medical education with the arts, humanities, and whole health principles.
Construction began on the school's medical education facility in 2023. It is seeking programmatic and institutional accreditation with the goal of welcoming the first class of 48 students in 2025.
