Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center in Winston-Salem, N.C., has entered into an affiliation agreement with Cornerstone Health Care, a group of more than 370 healthcare providers based in High Point, N.C.
The groups affiliated through Cornerstone's wholly-owned management services organization, Cornerstone Health Enablement Strategic Solutions.
Through the affiliation, the organizations aim to improve the quality of care and decrease the cost of care through care coordination efforts. "Through better care coordination, we plan to provide more integrated care with fewer duplicated services, increase patient access to support services and lower total healthcare costs," John McConnell, MD, CEO of Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center, said in a news release.
Cornerstone Health Care participates as an accountable care organization in the Medicare Shared Savings Program and has value-based contracts with all of its payers. Wake Forests Baptist Medical Center could join Cornerstone's ACO as part of the affiliation, but the business plan is still being developed, according to a Cornerstone spokesman.
