VA partners with Rochester Regional Health for veteran inpatient psychiatric care

Rochester (N.Y.) Regional Health and the Canandaigua (N.Y.) VA Medical Center partnered to provide inpatient psychiatric services to veterans. The partnership came into effect March 1, according to Democrats & Chronicle.

The multi-year partnership marks one of the firsts between a Department of Veteran Affairs medical center and a non-VA psychiatric hospital provider.

Local veterans in Rochester in need of inpatient mental and behavioral healthcare previously had to travel to Buffalo and Syracuse. Now they will be able to obtain such services at Rochester GeneralHospital, Unity Hospital St. Mary's Campus, Newark-WayneCommunityHospital and Clifton Springs Hospital & Clinic.

About 120 patients per year are expected to utilize the local services.

Rochester Regional Health and the Canandaigua VA Medical Center will work with the Rochester Institute of Technology's College of Health Sciences and Technology to create a curriculum and training in post-traumatic stress disorder and other conditions, according to the report.
