A Madison, Wis.-based UW Health committee plans to finish a proposal by April to integrate its 592-bed UW Hospital in Madison with its 1,300-physician group, the UW Medical Foundation, the hospital's chairman, David Walsh, told the Wisconsin State Journal.
If the hospital and the physician group merge, one CEO position will be eliminated and the group will be governed by a single leader. It is "preferred but not required" that the CEO be a physician, Mr. Walsh told the Wisconsin State Journal.
According to the report, the purpose of the merger is to simplify the formation of partnerships with other health systems, said Jeff Grossman, MD, president and CEO of UW Medical Foundation.
Mr. Walsh says the medical foundation and the hospital aiming to approve a proposal by July, according to the report.
