A new medical school in Las Vegas was approved last summer, and the school has since been moving closer to full accreditation status. Now the University of Nevada, Las Vegas School of Medicine has received a $3 million grant from the United Health Foundation, according to the Las Vegas Review-Journal.
The grant, which will span five years, will be used to fund curriculum needs, certificates and research programs, as well as various community clinics, according to UNLV School of Medicine Founding Dean Barbara Atkinson, MD.
The United Health Foundation, founded in 1999 by UnitedHealth Group, hopes to continue its partnership with the medical school in the future, according to the report.
If all goes well, the UNLV School of Medicine will open in July 2017.
